Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapy
We can make psychotherapy work for you. Depending on your needs and preferences, we can braid together traditional talk therapy such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), body-based somatic counseling, mindfulness practices, and expressive arts therapy, in which art, storytelling, sound, and movement all deepen therapy outcomes. I emphasize evidence-based, trauma-informed, and neurodivergent-affirming techniques that honor your dignity, agency, and safety. I am also committed to the unlearning/learning and co-creation needed for an anti-oppressive, liberation-oriented practice that goes beyond individual care to nurture collective care and social change.
Expressive Arts Therapy
Expressive arts therapy (EXA) intentionally integrates imagery/visual art, sound/music, movement/dance, storytelling/dramatic enactment, creative writing, and imaginative play as a form of psychotherapy. The creative process itself, not artistic products, is where healing and empowerment happen. EXA can dig deeper than traditional talk therapy, making it particularly effective for people with trauma histories or neurodiverse folks who navigate the world in beautifully different ways. EXA also increases our brain’s ability to change, called neuroplasticity. Some ways we might integrate EXA include mindfulness practices, embodied self-expression, and experiencing a safe sense of play and joy.
Somatic (Mind-Body) Counseling
“Soma” means body. Traditional talk therapy typically focuses on the connection between thoughts and behaviors. Somatic therapy brings the body and emotions into the equation in an evidence-based and trauma-informed way. You’ll find that somatic counseling differs from traditional therapy because, instead of talking about past events, we shift our focus to what’s happening in the present moment. We’ll often use mindfulness techniques and can easily integrate somatics with expressive arts therapy. The goal is greater self-awareness and the ability to respond to ourselves with care and curiosity.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CTB) is the gold standard of evidence-based mental health therapies. CBT helps you notice and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors so you can feel better and handle life’s challenges more effectively. It is the first line of treatment for many mental health issues, including substance use, compulsive behaviors, anxiety, and depression. I combine CBT with mindfulness and body-based techniques to offer a well-rounded approach.
Relational-Cultural Therapy
Relational‑cultural therapy (RCT) is a feminist approach grounded in how people grow and heal through relationships and how sociocultural factors shape those relationships, particularly systems of power and oppression. In therapy, RCT can help you understand and explore patterns that perpetuate disconnection, practice relational skills, and work toward creating a more authentically connected life where you feel a sense of belonging and empowerment.

What Therapy Is Like With Me
Therapy with me is a creative collaboration with you at the wheel. Whether we work exclusively with talk therapy, expressive arts therapy, somatics, or a combination, your preferences, abilities, and curiosities will guide us. No prior experience with the arts is required, just your willingness to explore beyond verbal processing alone.
Joy is healing, so we will integrate humor and play, along with practical skills, to decrease pain points and amplify your total well-being. I will adapt to what you bring to each session. Sometimes, this means I will challenge you to stretch into your growth edge and face yourself with compassionate honesty. Other times, we will dive into developing achievable strategies for specific goals. But in many sessions, we will learn about what it means to be kindly present with ourselves and all that comes up – grief, uncertainty, longing, rage, hope, and more.
Lastly, whether you are seeking counseling for just a few sessions or for a longer period, I aim to equip you with the knowledge and resources to feel capable of making and sustaining change in your life – with or without therapy.

Who I Work With, Where, and When
I work with individuals, couples/dyads, other relational set-ups, and groups. I see adults and teenagers (ages 14+) via telehealth across Michigan, and I offer in-person therapy in Detroit, Michigan, at an integrative health practice called Create U. Learn more about my cozy practice space (including therapy in the garden!) on my Contact page.
I have availability for in-person and telehealth sessions in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings, Monday through Thursday. A typical session lasts between 53 and 60 minutes.
I offer care around issues of:
- Overwhelm and burnout
- Stress, anxiety, and depression
- 2SLGBTQIA+ issues, gender, and sexual identity
- Relationships, including non-monogamy and relationship anarchy
- Highly sensitive people (HSPs) and empaths
- Neurodiversity, sensory processing differences, ADHD, and autism
- Chronic pain, chronic illness, and injury
- Trauma recovery (relational, chronic, brain injury, medical, etc.)
- Addiction and substance use recovery
- Life transitions, change, and grief
You don’t need major life challenges to seek therapy – sometimes a few sessions can be helpful if you just need another perspective while you navigate a decision, or as a container for self-exploration.
I do not provide crisis counseling. If you are in crisis, see these Resources, call 988, or visit your nearest emergency room.

Your Investment
Personally, the most rewarding investment I ever made was in my well-being. Therapy is one type of self-investment, with a payoff that can include reduced distress, improved quality of life, greater self-compassion, fulfilling relationships, and more.
Paying with Insurance
I currently accept health insurance plans through Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Blue Cross Complete – Medicaid.
Paying Out-of-Pocket
A 53-60-minute session (CPT code 90837) is $135. A couples/relationship/family therapy session is $185.
I am committed to making mental health care more accessible. If there are financial barriers to your obtaining counseling, please contact me to discuss your options.
Payment Methods
Billing is easiest with a credit card, but cash can be accepted, too.
Group Therapy and Events
From time to time, I will offer group therapy and workshops through Create U. Group sessions are paid out of pocket at a much lower rate than individual therapy sessions. I will update my website and Create U’s website and social media with information about future group opportunities as they arise.
